High School Equivalency Classes

High school equivalency testing provides adults with the opportunity to earn the Nevada Certificate of High School Equivalency. The certificate is widely recognized as the equivalent of a high school diploma. Since 1978, NNLC has helped thousands of adult learners ages 16 and older achieve a high school equivalency certification.

Northern Nevada Literacy Council offers classes to prepare adult learners ages 16 and older to sit for the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam. Nevada test-takers may choose from two approved HSE exams, the GED®, or the HiSET® to validate their academic skills and knowledge.

Steps to Success:

Since 1978, NNLC has helped thousands of adult learners ages 16 and older achieve a high school equivalency certification.

Orientation:

Students complete the application and attend orientation.  At orientation, students will learn about the classes, the CASAS assessment, and work with our Career Pathways Coordinator to create training and employment goals.

Competency Based:

Students will complete the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) to determine their educational functioning levels. Students may only need to enroll in classes for a short period of time before it is determined they are ready to sit for the high school equivalency exam. Students are expected to take the CASAS assessment every 50 hours of attendance and most students will move up one educational functioning level towards sitting for the high school equivalency exam.

Schedule:

Students will schedule the high school equivalency exam(s) with our intake specialists. In most cases, funding is available to cover the fees for the exam.
